Learning Reflection in A Discourse Approach in Reading

What did you learn in this class?In this course, I learned many things about  Discourse approach in reading. I learned 10 unit. I learned about different genres of text.
1. Recount- Recount is a text which retells events or experiences in the past. Its purpose is either to inform or to entertain the audience. There is no complication among the participants and that differentiates from narrative.

2Narrative- Narrative is a text focusing specific participants. Its social function is to tell stories or past events and entertain the readers.

3. 
Description - Descriptive text is a text which says what a person or a thing is like. Its purpose is to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing.

4. Procedure
- Procedure is a text which tell the reader how to make something.

5. 
Comparison and Contrast- This handout will help me first to determine whether a particular assignment is asking for comparison/contrast and then to generate a list of similarities and differences, decide which similarities and differences to focus on and organize your paper so that it will be clear and effective.

6. 
Cause and Effect - Cause and Effect is a text to  shows relationship between cause  and effect.

7. 
Definition - Definition is a statement of the meaning of a term.
8. 
Classification- Classification is a text to divide general concepts in to a number of different types.

9. 
Exemplification Exemplification is a text to adding information to explain or illustrate a general idea.

10. 
Problem solving- Problem solving is a text tell about problem and then gives one or more solutions.
Teacher taught us to find 
discourse markers, we can read the paragraph and did it. It can help me understand the meaning of the text. 
What did you find easy?- In my opinion, Recount and Procedure were easy for me because I like diary writing and like cooking. 
What did you find difficult?
- I think most of lesson was difficult because I didn't know meaning of the words and it made me not understand about meaning. When I did exercise it made me confuse and not   confident it.

How did you solve the problem?
I solve my problem by do exercises myself. Sometimes I asked my friends and found the some vocabulary before class.

What are your attitudes towards the lesson?
- Sometimes, I felt bad that I can't did exercise and not understand it, but I tried to practise and asked my friends about each problem. I impress teacher, she tried explain and made it to easy and to understand. 

I will try to do my best.

Problem and Solution -14-


Today is Friday, I don't have this course but today I have it in this afternoon.
First, teacher answer exercise us about exemplification from last week and she assigned us to practice pronunciation sounds. 

When we answer exercise finished this unit, she gave last unit for this course in the subject "Problem and Solution".  First, she explained us about what is a problem and solution? 

Problem and Solution is a pattern of organization where information in a passage is expressed as a dilemma or concerning issue (a problem) and something that was, can be, or should be done to remedy this issue (solution or attempted solution).

 After that, she assigned us to do exercise, circle the problem markers and highlight the solution markers. Next, she assigned us to do exercise about "Machine gun" and 
found the problem and solution markers. The last, she assigned us to find vocabulary about ingredient of machine gun.


 For me, I very confuses between Problem and Solution unit and cause and effect unit. I think it very  difficult unit.
